Getting here was certainly a long path... After graduating with a Business degree in Santa Barbara and a Chemistry degree from UC Berkeley (both wonderfully eco-conscious regions), I worked as a Scientist for 8 years and an Engineering Project Manager for 2 years. My dream had been to pursue the development of improved solar cells, but I ended up in a very different field to help humanity. While on a brief vacation in Hawaii (ironically, a company bonus), I discovered bamboo t-shirts, and that was really the beginning of the Element EcoWear idea. (For more details, and to read about the Element Eco-philosophies, click

To create the Element EcoWear website and t-shirt graphics on a budget, I learned how to make everything myself, and put more than a year of time into both on every non-working evening and weekend. When my company's California branch closed in 2008, it seemed like the perfect time to invest several months into full-time production, and in October 2008 the store launched at last.
